About Catherine Morris, MFT

I’ve been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who for the past 25 years has helped couples, individuals and families transform painful relationships.

Prior to this career change I spent 18 years in Marketing Communications and Program Management at numerous Silicon Valley Tech corporations. Silicon Valley has a dynamic work environment that creates cutting edge technology on the one hand and tremendous stress and strain on the other. I have seen how this stress impacts individuals, couples and entire families. Working in the Tech field for so many years has given me a unique insight into the joys and challenges of working in this vibrant and highly competitive area.

Areas of interest include:

  • Couples Therapy

  • Family Therapy

  • Individual Therapy

  • Grief and Trauma Counseling

  • Communication in Relationships

  • Depression and Anxiety Support and Management for Individuals

I hold a master’s degree in clinical psychology from John F. Kennedy University.

My post-graduate training includes grief and loss, trauma, mediation and conflict resolution (for communities and divorce), and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

The through line in my post graduate experiences are a desire to help people in different circumstances and life events learn how to understand, be understood and communicate clearly.

The primary focus of my continuing education for the past 18 years has been Emotionally Focused Therapy. This training has included conferences, workshops, seminars, individual and group consultations as well as specific training in EFT for couples, individuals and families.

I’m active in the Northern California Community of Emotionally Focused Therapy. This is a dynamic group of professionals from around the Bay Area that are committed to the continued learning of EFT and creating a strong support network for its members. We function as a knowledge base for each other as well as a network for referrals and support in our work.

Previous experience and associations:

  • Volunteer Chaplain at Stanford University Hospital,

  • Clinical supervisor at Adolescent Counseling Services where I worked with interns at Jordan Middle School and the 3 Palo Alto high schools as well as a group home for teen girls,

  • Associate at the Couples Institute in Menlo Park,

  • Group facilitator for parents struggling with the loss of a partner at KARA in Palo Alto,

  • Community mediator with Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center.
